Abstract
In a short glance at changes which have taken place in student selection system / procedure in Iranian higher education system since 1979, main reasons are given by the article regarding the necessity of present student selection system / procedure along with a comprehensive information about Entrance Exam including: A comparison between number of applicants and admitted students before and after Islamic Revolution; - Their distribution in accordance with age, sex, grade point average, type of high school diploma, and area of exams; - A comparison of demand for different major of studies and existing capasity of higher education institutions in these fields; - Data on non - admitted students with a high G.P.A. At the end, the article by emphasizing upon the maJor objectives and characteristics of present student selection system in Iran, proposes some suggestions to improve the present status of student selection system.
