Abstract

This paper briefly outlines the necessity and importance of Data Base Manag ement System as an essential tool for decision makers, analysis of educational issues and comprehensive and strategic planning. The paper then begins with a discussion of establishing Data Base at the Institute for Research and Planning in Higher Education, includes consideration of micro and macro benefits data base for higher education at national level. This is followed with elaboration of national statistics on higher education as a data source for researchers, scholars, planners, policy makers and students, with especial to the following components and indicators: Number of admission, number of enrolment, personnel and teaching staff, faculty members, cu"ent and capital expenditures, and graduates.
