Abstract
The limitations on budgetary, time, and human resources in hjgher education system, leads the decision makers to make important decisions about the priority and the importance of different research areas and problems. Considering the complexity of decision making condition, it is best that a variant of Multi-Criteria Decision Making technique to be used to analyze the situation. The application of AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Processes) to determine, the priority of research areas in higher education is investigated. AHP is an offspring of the graph theory; it is introduced by T.L. Saaty in recent years. It has been used to analyze, both the individual and group decision making conditions. Using a numerical example as a case, the extent of applicability, and efficiency of this technique to determine the priorities and the importance of different research areas in higher education is demonstrated, and some implications for future research is suggested.
