The intellectual origins of this article stem from the economic theory of investment in human capital. By selectively discussing problems of uncertainty about the future stream of income, and specifically applying the personal pattern of income distribution as an analytical tool the researcher was able to show the current "suboptimal" situation and his "optimal" solution. This selection sketches some of the key features of Mr Entezarie's thesis. He was provided with the Institute's scholarship for his graduate studies. The editorial board has been fortunate in having the article published in the Journal.
