The Role of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Birjand University in Providing Specialized Human Resources Required by the Province of Birjand

The present paper is the result of the study carried out on the Role of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Birjand University in Providing Specialized Human Resources Required by the region, on the one hand, and the presence of these specialized resources in both qualitative and quantitative agricultural development in the region. The author first embarks on describing geographical situation of this province together with its natural potentials, population, and economic conditions. The status of the Birjand Faculty of Agricultur in providing specialized human resources in the agricultural field is, Then, described. In the next step a need assessment analysis is provided on the specialized human resources in the field of agriculture as well as the role of the f acuity of agriculture , and the following conclusion is accordingly drawn: Despite the fact that the faculty of agriculture has 219 students, and enjoys the services of 35 faculty members, and the graduation rate is 44 graduates per year, this f acuity will not be capable of training the required number of specialized human resources in Birjand. Analysis of the need assessment indicates that the optimum required human resources to meet the agricultural needs of Birjand should be approximately 40 experts in the field, 311 technicians(A.A.); in animal husbandry section, 641 experts, 1282 technicians(A.A.); this is far from the existing situation. However, by employing plans matching the need of the region, by the Birjand University or other institutes in charge, we may provide the following: 1- Establishing joint prog F acuity of Agriculture. 2-    Establishing supplementary courses
3-    Adopting effective policies concerning increasing the capacity to admit local students and guarantee their job and welfare. 4-    Employing thechnology in accordance with the regional need. 5-    creating an appropriate atmosphere for attracting immigrantsThese activities can play a major role in the economic, social and cultural development in Birjand.
