The Role of Universities and Research in the National Development

چکیده [English]

Dr. Sayyad Jamalleddin Tabibi
This paper attempts to make an analytical study concerning the problems of the developing countries, national development, universities and research taking into consideration the existing relationship between them. In the process of this study, the auther has described the basic concepts of national development, university, and research; he believes that the continuous astonishing development in the industerialized and modern countries and the increasing gap between the developed and developing countries have been the major reason for the third world countries to closely focus upon the concept of national development. National development will comprehensively be realized in any country when universities show considerable dynamics and potentialities. Since university is considered as center for thinking, innovation, and awareness in the society, it is expected that more effective steps be taken in the realization of the objectives of the national development through carrying out its tasks with regard to 'research'; thus lead the country to the path of advancement and pave the way for further development of the country. If universities cannot embark on training effective researchers as well as carrying out scientific researches required by the society, they will not have practically been able to present their actual capabilities, and as a result, their authenticity and natur will be under question.
